Find answers about Steviology’s ingredients, taste, usage, safety, storage and ordering.
I already use stevia. Why should I switch to Steviology?
Steviology is not designed to deliver only sweetness. It has been created to offer a fuller flavour experience. Because it is made directly from whole stevia leaves, it retains more of the leaf’s natural flavour, aroma, colour and wider botanical character. This gives Steviology a more rounded taste, instead of the bare, sharp or metallic sweetness some people experience with highly refined stevia products.
Steviology is extracted using water alone—not alcohol or glycerine—and contains no added sweeteners, flavour enhancers, fillers or bulking ingredients such as erythritol, allulose, xylitol, maltodextrin or dextrose. It is made in small batches in Singapore, with independent laboratory reports available for review.
Many stevia products I see are powders. Why is Steviology a liquid?
Many powdered stevia extracts are designed to deliver concentrated sweetness in a dry, ‘spoonable’ form. They are often combined with bulking ingredients so they can be measured and used more like sugar, and behave like sugar. Steviology takes a different approach.
It is a liquid whole-leaf extract that carries not only sweetness, but also more of the leaf’s natural flavour, aroma and golden colour. The liquid format blends easily into tea, coffee, milk drinks, juices, sauces and other everyday foods, without needing fillers or bulking ingredients to create volume.
Steviology is therefore not simply stevia in another form. It offers a fuller whole-leaf experience rather than concentrated sweetness rebuilt into a powder.
Many stevia products are white or clear. Why is Steviology golden?
Steviology is golden because it retains more of the whole leaf’s natural colour, flavour and aroma. Its colour is not added later; it remains because the extract is not industrially processed and decolourised. The golden appearance is therefore a visible sign of Steviology’s natural, whole-leaf approach. That’s why slight colour variation between small batches is also natural.
Steviology costs more than many other stevia extracts. Why?
Steviology is a premium product because of the way it is made. Whole stevia leaves are carefully selected, then extracted and prepared in small batches using a proprietary water-extraction process developed to preserve more of the leaf’s natural character. Every batch is managed under direct oversight, and key product and nutritional claims are supported by independent laboratory testing. The value lies in a dedicated whole-leaf process and a fuller sensory experience—not simply the strongest sweetness in the fewest drops.
Are there other products made like Steviology? Why is such a product uncommon?
Some stevia extracts may share individual features with Steviology, but its complete combination is unique: whole stevia leaves, direct water extraction, no alcohol or glycerine, no erythritol or fillers, and a naturally golden, fuller-tasting extract. This approach requires a proprietary process developed specifically around the whole leaf, with careful control of different production stages to ensure consistency and quality. It is more specialised than producing a sweetener around refined stevia ingredients, which is why fewer products follow the same route.
Is Steviology just bottled in Singapore, or is it actually made here?
Steviology is genuinely made in Singapore, not imported as a finished liquid and simply bottled here. The entire process—from selecting whole stevia leaves, extracting them in water using Steviology’s proprietary process, and bottling—takes place locally. Each small batch is hand-curated and managed under direct oversight from whole leaf to finished bottle.
You say Steviology is extracted using water alone. Does that mean water is its only ingredient?
No. “Extracted using water alone” means that water is the only medium used to draw the sweetness, flavour, aroma and colour from the whole stevia leaves. No alcohol or glycerine is used in extraction. Steviology’s ingredients are water, whole-leaf stevia extract and a pinch of potassium sorbate as preservative.
My current stevia extract also says it is “100% natural” and made from stevia leaves. So what makes Steviology different?
The words “natural” and “made from stevia leaves” do not tell you about the extract's journey from leaf to bottle. Many liquid stevia extracts begin with highly refined white stevia powder that is dissolved back into liquid and may then be combined with other ingredients. Steviology begins with whole stevia leaves and extracts them directly in water, retaining more of their natural flavour, aroma, colour and botanical character. The real difference lies in the process and the complete ingredient list—not simply the claim on the front of the label.
What do you mean when you say that Steviology is produced using a "proprietary water-extraction process"?
It means that Steviology uses a unique process developed specifically to extract sweetness, together with more of the whole leaf’s natural flavour, aroma, colour and botanical character, using water alone. The leaves are carefully selected, water-extracted, and prepared under controlled conditions. The precise operating method is protected know-how, but the principle is clear: whole stevia leaves, water extraction, no alcohol and no glycerine.
Are any chemicals used in the production of Steviology?
No. Steviology is produced without using any chemical solvents. Whole leaves are extracted using only water, and not alcohol or glycerine. Being a natural product, made directly from whole leaves, and without industrial refining, the finished product contains less than a pinch of potassium sorbate, a known food preservative, to help preserve this water-based botanical extract from yeast and mould. Steviology does not contain any added chemical sweeteners, flavour enhancers, fillers or bulking ingredients such as erythritol, allulose, xylitol, maltodextrin or dextrose.
I have heard that some stevia products contain additional ingredients that may not suit everyone. What about Steviology?
Steviology's ingredient list is minimal – just water, whole leaf stevia extract and a pinch of potassium sorbate as preservative. It contains no erythritol, allulose, xylitol, maltodextrin, dextrose, added flavours or artificial sweeteners. These types of ingredients are typically used in some sweeteners to add bulk, increase sweetness, make a product measure more like sugar or modify its taste. Steviology does not need them because its fuller flavour, aroma, colour and sweetness come directly from the whole-leaf extract.
Steviology contains potassium sorbate. Why is it used, and doesn't that make it an additive?
Potassium sorbate is a well-known food preservative, permitted for use under Singapore’s food-additive regulations. Being a water-based natural extract, Steviology uses a pinch of potassium sorbate as a preservative to help control yeast and mould, and maintain shelf life. It is tasteless and does not add sweetness, flavour or bulk, and is not used to imitate sugar or rebuild the taste of the product.
My current stevia extract contains alcohol, and I’m comfortable with it. Why does Steviology use water for extraction instead? Is water actually better?
Water is the better choice for Steviology because, as a natural solvent, it naturally draws sweetness together with flavour, aroma and colour from the whole stevia leaves without introducing alcohol or any other chemical solvent into the process. It supports Steviology’s direct whole-leaf approach and makes the product suitable for customers who avoid alcohol for personal, dietary, social or religious reasons. Steviology does not need alcohol to create its full botanical character—water is all it takes.
My stevia extract contains glycerine. Steviology doesn’t. Does glycerine add calories or affect blood sugar?
Glycerine is a sweet, syrup-like ingredient commonly used to add sweetness, thickness and body to liquid extracts. It provides about 4.3 calories per gram, so it is neither calorie-free nor metabolically inactive. The body can also use glycerine in processes that produce glucose, although the actual blood-glucose response depends on the amount consumed and the complete formulation. Steviology does not rely on glycerine to build sweetness or texture—its fuller flavour, aroma, colour and sweetness come directly from the whole stevia leaf, extracted only in water.
If Steviology is made from whole stevia leaves, does it taste grassy ?
No. Steviology does not taste like raw stevia leaves. Its proprietary process is designed to eliminate harsh grassy notes while retaining a mild botanical character that gives the sweetness greater depth and a more rounded finish. At the recommended amount, this character should complement your drink rather than overpower it.
I've tried stevia before and didn't like the aftertaste. Will Steviology taste the same?
Steviology offers a different taste experience. Highly refined stevia can sometimes produce a bare, sharp or metallic sweetness because much of the leaf’s natural flavour and aroma has been removed. Steviology retains a broader whole-leaf profile, giving the sweetness a fuller and more rounded character. Start with ½ teaspoon, stir well and taste before adding more.
I've heard that stevia tastes like liquorice. Is that true? Does Steviology also taste like liquorice?
A liquorice-like note is sometimes associated with stevia, particularly when highly concentrated or overused. Steviology is designed to deliver a fuller, rounded sweetness in which flavour, aroma and botanical character work together rather than leaving one sharp note exposed. At the recommended amount, any liquorice-like character should remain mild rather than dominate the drink.
Will Steviology change the taste of my tea or coffee?
Steviology sweetens tea and coffee while adding a mild botanical depth that complements their natural flavour. It is designed to taste fuller and more rounded, rather than adding only a sharp burst of sweetness. Start with ½ teaspoon, stir well and adjust to taste as preferred.
Can I use Steviology wherever I use sugar, including in cooking and baking?
Steviology can replace the sweetness of sugar in tea, coffee, milk drinks, breakfast bowls, sauces, marinades and many cooked dishes. In baking, however, sugar also provides bulk, texture, browning and sometimes supports yeast activity. Use Steviology to replace the sweetness, then adjust the recipe where sugar performs these other functions.
Other liquid stevia extracts need only a few drops. Why does Steviology suggest starting with ½ teaspoon, and won’t those products last much longer?
Few-drop extracts are usually highly concentrated and designed mainly to deliver maximum sweetness from the smallest amount. But sweetness experienced on its own can feel bare, sharp or metallic to some consumers.
Steviology takes a different approach. Start with ½ teaspoon and adjust to taste. It delivers sweetness together with more of the whole leaf’s natural flavour, aroma, colour and botanical character, creating a fuller and more rounded taste.
A few-drop concentrate may provide more sweetening occasions from a small bottle, but Steviology is not designed simply to deliver the strongest sweetness from the fewest drops. Its value lies in the quality and completeness of the whole-leaf experience.
I once tasted stevia, but it didn't taste sweet straight away. With sugar, I feel the sweetness immediately. Why is that?
Stevia sweetness can develop more gradually and remain on the palate longer than sugar. Give Steviology a moment to blend with your drink before deciding whether more is needed. Stir well, wait briefly and taste again—adding too much too quickly can make the sweetness and after-notes stronger than intended.
I have diabetes or prediabetes. Can I use Steviology instead of sugar, and will it affect my blood glucose?
Steviology can replace the sugar you would otherwise add to tea, coffee and other foods. Its tested nutrition panel records 0 g sugar per 5 ml serving, so it does not add the spoonful of sugar being replaced. It is not a treatment for diabetes, however, and individual responses can vary. Continue monitoring your blood glucose and follow your healthcare professional’s advice, especially if you take glucose-lowering medication.
Steviology contains zero sugar. Does that mean I can use as much as I like, or could regular use have side effects?
Yes. Switching from sugar to Steviology means you are no longer adding spoonful after spoonful of sugar to every cup, making additional cups easier to fit into a lower-sugar routine. Steviology only replaces the sweetener, however. Milk, condensed milk, creamers, syrups and other ingredients may still add sugar or calories, and caffeine intake also builds up across the day.
Some sweeteners can cause bloating or stomach discomfort. Could Steviology do the same?
Digestive discomfort linked to some stevia products is often caused not by stevia itself, but by added ingredients such as erythritol and other sugar alcohols, or bulking fibres such as inulin. These ingredients can cause gas, bloating or loose stools in some people, particularly when consumed in larger amounts. Steviology contains none of these ingredients. As with any food, individual sensitivity is still possible, but Steviology avoids the common sweetening and bulking ingredients most often associated with such discomfort.
Is Steviology suitable for a low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diet?
Yes. Steviology’s tested nutrition panel records 0 g carbohydrate and 0 g sugar per 5 ml serving, so it can fit into a low-carbohydrate or ketogenic eating plan. Remember that the total carbohydrate content of the complete drink or recipe still matters.
Is Steviology suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
Yes. Steviology contains no animal-derived ingredients and is suitable for both vegetarians and vegans. It is also made without gelatine, dairy ingredients or animal-derived glycerine.
Is Steviology Halal?
Steviology is made without alcohol or animal-derived ingredients and is formulated to be suitable for customers seeking a Halal-friendly product. It is not currently MUIS Halal-certified, so we do not display a Halal certification mark or describe it as formally certified. Customers who require official certification should take that distinction into account.
Does Steviology cause any allergies?
Steviology contains none of the usual major food allergens, and allergy to stevia appears to be uncommon. However, it is a plant-derived product, and no food can be guaranteed suitable for every individual. Review the complete ingredient list if you have known allergies, and stop using the product immediately if you experience signs of an allergic reaction.
Does Steviology need to be refrigerated, or can I carry it in my bag? Will Singapore's hot weather affect it?
Steviology does not need refrigeration. Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and prolonged heat. Carrying it in your bag for normal daily use is fine, but avoid leaving it for extended periods in a hot car or another enclosed, heated place.
The bottle says "Best Before". If I open it much later, will it last beyond the Best Before date?
No. The Best Before date applies to the bottle itself and does not restart when it is opened. Opening Steviology later does not extend that date, so it should be stored as directed and used before the printed Best Before date.
I've noticed some tiny particles floating in Steviology and a little sediment at the bottom. Is that normal? Should I be concerned?
A small amount of fine botanical sediment can occur in a whole-leaf extract and is not usually a cause for concern. Gently invert the bottle before use to redistribute it. Do not use the product if the particles are accompanied by mould-like growth or a strong off smell.
I've noticed that the colour or aroma of Steviology has changed slightly over time. Is that normal?
A slight gradual change in colour or aroma can occur in a botanical extract, especially after repeated exposure to light, heat or air. The amber bottle helps reduce this exposure. A pronounced or sudden change—particularly together with an off smell or mould-like growth—is not normal, and the bottle should no longer be used.
How will I know if my bottle of Steviology has gone bad?
Do not use Steviology if you notice mould-like growth, unusual fizzing or pressure, leakage, a strong sour or fermented smell, or a major unexpected change in appearance. Do not taste it to check. Keep the bottle and its batch details, and contact us so that the issue can be reviewed.
How can I check that Steviology’s ingredient and nutrition claims are genuine?
You do not have to rely only on what we say. Steviology has been independently tested in Singapore for its nutritional profile and microbiological quality, with supporting shelf-life assessment also carried out. The SGS nutrition report and Amlab microbiological and accelerated shelf-life reports are available on the About Steviology page for you to review.
Are Steviology’s listed prices and bundle options the same whether I order directly or through an official online marketplace?
Yes. Steviology’s regular listed prices and bundle options are kept consistent across our direct store and official online marketplaces. The final amount shown at checkout may still vary because delivery charges and marketplace-specific vouchers or benefits are handled separately by each channel.

I keep seeing the term “steviol glycosides” on stevia products. What does it mean?
Steviol glycosides are the naturally sweet compounds found in stevia leaves. Different glycosides can contribute different sweetness and taste characteristics. Many stevia products isolate and refine selected glycosides into a white powder. Steviology extracts them together with more of the whole leaf’s natural flavour, aroma, colour and wider botanical character.
Stevia and monk fruit are both plant-derived sugar alternatives. How are they different?
Stevia and Monk Fruit come from different plants and derive their sweetness from different natural compounds: stevia from steviol glycosides in the leaf, and monk fruit from mogrosides in the fruit. In finished products, both may be highly refined or combined with other sweeteners and bulking ingredients, so the front-label name alone does not tell you what you are buying.
Steviology’s advantage lies in its whole-leaf, water-extracted liquid format. It delivers zero-sugar sweetness together with more of the stevia leaf’s natural flavour, aroma and golden colour, without any flavour enhancers and extra additives such as erythritol, inulin, malitol, etc.
